Abstract In this chapter, we examine the final stage in life cycle of pellagrous patients—discharge or death. The nineteenth-century emphasis on physicality insanity lent itself to treatment insanity, which responded well better diet and living conditions asylums offered. Approximately two-thirds insane patients were discharged, either ‘cured’ ‘improved’ (at least according their patient files).
